After yesterday’s grossly offensive cupcakes from FROST, here’s something from Cupcake Royale to clear the bad taste.
Cupcake Royale is a beloved Seattle institution for its interesting and fun flavors, such as lavender, blueberry Brown Betty, peach cobbler, blackberry brown butter, and raspberry Pavlova. Cupcakes are under $4.
I got raspberry pavlova and my friend Rose Marie (who is one of the reasons I started blogging) got blueberry brown betty. Raspberry Pavlova is described as “raspberry vanilla cake, swirled with lemon buttercream frosting, drizzled with raspberry sauce and topped with a Pavlova kiss” and blueberry Brown Betty is described as “vanilla cake, loaded with local blueberries, swirled with a brown-sugar cream cheese frosting and drizzled in streusel.”They were awesome.
The raspberry sauce isn’t a boring sugar syrup but more like a just-cooked, homemade jam, thick with real raspberries and tasting like more than sugar. The Pavlova kiss is just meringue – Pavlova is the name of a dessert consisting of meringue, fruit and sometimes whipped cream.
These are super fluffy and soft.
Besides cupcakes, Cupcake Royale sells cake pops, ice cream, drinks, and fun gifts. I went to the Pike Place Market location, but there are several stores.
