Gelato Pique Cafe, located in a brightly lit atrium of Joy City (my favorite place in Shanghai) is such a cute place to have afternoon tea and sweets. Matcha lattes count as tea, right?
Our phones were out the entire time as we snapped photos of the oh-so-Instagrammable drinks and food items. Going down the page: Chocolate parfait (58 RMB), gelato (48 RMB), French butter & sugar crepe (68 RMB), matcha latte (35 RMB), matcha smoothie (42 RMB).
The menu images promised more artful arrangements.
The drink prices are alright but the food prices are crazy expensive in China (and would be considered expensive in America considering the tiny amount of food you get). I guess you are paying for the atmosphere here, but the Joy City shopping complex has a lot of amazing architecture where the atmosphere is free and the food isn’t sample-size. The space is nice enough that it’s worth stopping in for drinks, but food needs to be found elsewhere. That’s not a problem at Joy City, where food is the main attraction.
