Salty’s Beach House is a must-stop if you’re hanging out in the beach town of Penticton, British Columbia.
It’s home to this ahi and avocado salad ($18.50 CAD).
This work of art consists of seared ahi tuna layered with avocado, nestled on a citrus and sesame salad with snap peas and pickled watermelon radish, finished with crispy wontons, and drizzled with togarashi mayo.
The Fisherman’s Pot ($23.50 CAD) was equally as gorgeous.
Prince Edward Island mussels, clams, prawns, scallops, and whitefish simmered in a red curry coconut cream with garden fresh vegetables, topped with green onion and vine-ripened tomato. Accompanied by coconut jasmine rice and fresh baked naan.
The rice is salted, which may take getting used to. I couldn’t tell that there was coconut involved. The naan was really good.
I also ordered crab cakes as an appetizer ($11 CAD).
Dungeness crab mixed with red pepper and spices, fried in a crisp panko breading with a citrus salad and spicy chipotle mayo dipping sauce on the side.
I felt like the “citrus salad” is misleading because I couldn’t tell that there was any citrus in the salad. Same with the ahi and avocado salad. But everything was still amazing.
The decor of this restaurant is as good-looking as the food.
Besides indoor seating, there’s outdoor and rooftop seating.
The playful nautical theme extends to the bathrooms.
And if you’re looking for the real sea, Salty’s faces it directly.
